Maximizing the potential for learning

Capitan Middle & High School

Dekker worked with Capitan Municipal Schools (CMS) and the PSFA to develop a master plan and outline multiple phases of work to address consolidation and renovation needs. Working with the CMS steering committee and CMAR, the design team conducted a thorough assessment of existing conditions to determine the best approach to renovations and replacements.

Ultimately, after presenting multiple options, CMS opted to consolidate the existing high school and middle school into a new secondary school, allowing the District to maximize their resources. The design also addressed site drainage issues. Construction was carefully coordinated as the new school was built on the existing active campus

Throughout the design and construction of the new secondary school, the design team worked with a consistent steering committee to represent all stakeholders with multiple perspectives during the decision-making process. The team also engaged the community, presenting design goals and updates throughout the process.

The result is a new state-of-the-art facility that represents the community, addresses the District's facility and masterplan needs, and supports CMS's educational mission.
