Multifamily Communities
Green comes in every color
Casitas de Colores
This affordable multifamily housing project is located in the heart of downtown Albuquerque. The complex is located on an urban infill site only two blocks from a multi-modal transportation center and within walking distance to various amenities. The walkable context includes employment, dining, entertainment, shopping, government facilities, a zoo, churches, schools, and a major hike/bike trail system.
The development is designed to create a family lifestyle in a downtown urban setting with a strong connection back to the city infrastructure. It also offers affordable living options for families in an urban environment. Sustainable features ensure that residents will have a quality home for years to come.
Casitas de Colores offers 71 units of functional housing in a series of three-story buildings. They are laid out in simple courtyard forms, creating secure outdoor community spaces. The courtyards contain playgrounds, landscaping, patio furniture, and gas grills.
Additional amenities include a community building and service building with a common area, a fitness room, laundry rooms, a trash compaction room, elevators, an education center, and a social services office. Resident parking is conveniently located in a tuck-under configuration.
The three residential buildings achieved LEED Platinum certification and the community building achieved LEED Gold certification. The project, which includes photovoltaic arrays located on both main residential buildings, is also designed to meet or exceed sustainable design standards of the 2011 Enterprise Green Communities program.
Casitas de Colores won the international Center for Active Design, Excellence Award for its active design strategies that promote active lifestyles and enhance the health and wellness of residents.
The project was also a finalist in the 2017 ULI Jack Kemp Excellence in Affordable and Workforce Housing Awards.
