Design for putting out fires
Fire Stations 2 & 7
These two fire stations are a new prototypical design developed for the City of Albuquerque to save design and construction costs. Both sites are located on historic Route 66, an avenue with precedents of neon signs and auto-oriented services. Befitting to the legacy, the fire station design incorporates patterned CMU and stucco exterior walls, aluminum storefront openings, and a floating entry canopy with strip LED neon accent lighting. Durable materials and clean lines create modern interior spaces.
Each station is staffed with an engine company of four personnel and a rescue company of two personnel. An apparatus bay houses the engine and rescue company vehicles. A third bay will be used for future expansion of service. The fire apparatus is separated from crew vehicles and public vehicular traffic.
A public entry lobby and a 300sf public meeting room provide space for community meetings and gatherings. These spaces are designed to be closed off from the rest of the station during fire events. An adjacent wing provides living and sleeping quarters for 10 firefighters.
