Office + Workplace
Sustainability in progress
Jefferson Green
Jefferson Green, Dekker's headquarters building, has set a new standard for sustainable design in New Mexico. It was the first LEED Gold commercial building and the largest, most energy efficient LEED building in the state at its opening. The building incorporates meaningful sustainable features into a market-rate speculative office building in order to use 30% less water and 45% less energy than similar facilities. Sustainable features include an under-floor air distribution system, advanced glazing and shading, operable windows, energy efficient lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and a variety of recycled, regional, and low-emitting materials to promote material conservation and reduce chemical off-gassing.
Design strategies create a comfortable, healthy environment for occupants, support access to local businesses, and make financial sense in terms of initial investment and operational savings. The site maintains the existing mature trees to the south of the building and directs runoff to planted areas to promote natural water harvesting. New xeric landscaping reduces water use and is irrigated by the City's industrial wastewater line to conserve the potable water supply. Additionally, exterior light fixtures are designed to minimize light pollution, reducing its effects on night sky access and nocturnal habitats. This building is a testament that sustainability can be a beautifully integrated component in a successful design.
