Where the neon still flickers
Silver Moon Lodge
Silver Moon is a mixed-use project located at the periphery of the Albuquerque's Central Business District along historic Route 66. It was designed to take advantage of the live/work/play setting of downtown as well as its accessibility to regional mass transportation. The project utilized tax credits that make it priced for moderate income earners. This strategy is meant to ensure a mixed-income community in downtown Albuquerque even as land becomes more valuable and rental prices increase in the area over the long term.
The four-story development consists of 65 one-bedroom units and 86 studio apartments. Built on a 1.38-acre site, project density measures nearly 104 dwelling units per acre. The project includes amenities meant to attract millennials and others drawn to urban living. Social gathering patio space on the upper level, a hot tub and swimming pool in the courtyard, exercise facility, and bicycle repair shop are just some of those amenities located on-site. There is also a 4,500sf retail space located at the corner of Central Avenue and 10th Street intended for community serving retail or commercial use. The design also pushes the envelope in terms of parking, providing less than one space for every six units.
The design promotes an urban lifestyle and pushes the envelope in terms of parking, providing less than one space for every six units. To help alleviate parking concerns, one of the adjacent streets, Park Avenue, was modified to incorporate angle parking, which increased parking availability. The result is a street that has been resized to reflect an appropriate scale for the neighborhood and increases the viability of adjacent businesses by activating the street with additional parking and patrons.
